In Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, Maoist insurgents set two tippers engaged in road construction ablaze. They also left some pamphlets at the incident site asking the contractor to stop the work.

According to police, Arora Constructions is engaged in road construction between Pakhnar and Toanar in Darbha Thana area. On late Thursday night around 10 to 15 miscreants in Naxal dress and equipped with arms reached the site of the construction and asked the labourers to leave the place after stopping the work. When the labourers fled from the road construction site the insurgents damaged the diesel tanks of two hiwa trucks engaged in road construction and set them ablaze. In the arson, while one tipper was damaged completely, another suffered partial damage.

Notably, in the insurgency hit Bastar Maoists are vehemently opposing construction of roads, buildings of schools, Anganwadis or even installation of electric poles as well as telephone towers to deny security forces better access in internal areas and have thwarted government’s bid to construct these facilities at a number of occasions.

This is the same Darbha region known for it's heavy naxal presence ,where almost a month back carnage took place which wiped out senior leaders of state Congress and left more than 29 dead.
