An injured Naxal who was arrested after a face-off with the police in a forested patch of insurgency-hit Kondagaon district was airlifted to Raipur for better treatment, police informed on Monday. The Naxal identified as Hemchand Marawi was brought to Raipur from Kondagaon on Mi-17 helicopter, Inspector General of Police (IGP) (State Intelligence Bureau), Deepanshu Kabra informed.

Notably, Marawi hailing from Rajnandgaon district had sustained bullet injuries in the gun-battle with a joint team of security forces on June 6 in forests near Timdi village under Dhanora police station limits. Two women Naxals were gunned down in the action that lasted for around an hour while a huge cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the spot.

However, police had claimed that many more Naxals were killed and injured in the incident but their colleagues  managed to drag them inside dense forests. The injured Marawi could not escape from the spot and was arrested, Kabra said. The insurgent was admitted at a local hospital in Kondagaon. However, after seeing his deteriorating condition he was airlifted to a local hospital in Raipur, the IG said.
