The In-charge of Azad Chowk Police Station Anup Nag had been line-attached on the orders of the District Superintendent of Police O P Pal following Monday’s incident where supporters of some building material suppliers attacked a team of municipal officials who had reached there to lodge a complaint.

At the same time, four accused having involvement in the incident who were arrested yesterday were produced in the court today.

It may be recalled that a team of municipal officials led by Engineer Abhas Mishra had gone to Idgah ground to free the land encroached by the same suppliers who had stored certain building materials on the encroached land for a long period of time.

On seeing the team of officials, the accused had started protesting while also reportedly threatening them with life.

When the officials reached the Azad Chowk Police Station to lodge a complaint, a large number of people who had gathered at the police station premises attacked the team.

A case was later registered against the accused Badruddhin Khokhar, Ubed Memon, Mohammed Farooq and Nadi Memon and were arrested.

The four accused are being interrogated to know about other attackers of the municipal team.

The Raipur Municipal Commissioner Taran Sinha had also reached the police station yesterday after being informed about the attack on the team.

The SP O P Pal has directed the CSPs and the police station In-charges to ensure such incidents do not recur in the city.
