The BJP said on Saturday that the declaration of a week-long lockdown in the Chhattisgarh capital to beat Covid-19 has come too late but nevertheless asked the government to impose it with a stern hand.

BJP state President Vishnudeo Sai said his party has been drawing the attention of the government on the need for a lockdown to bring down the cases.

He said in a statement that the lockdown should be implemented sternly and ruling party leaders should not be involved in any type of violation.

On the week-long strike by 13,000 contract health employees, he said the government should regularize them to prevent the health services from going into a ‘coma’. Earlier, junior doctors and sanitation staff had gone on strike.

The Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly, Dharamlal Kaushik, said the lockdown should be imposed across the state after discussions with all stakeholders. The period can be for two weeks to stem the further spread of Covid-19.

BJP MLA and spokesperson Shivratan Sharma said it has become crystal clear that the state government has totally failed to control the pandemic. As the situation has gone out of hand, the realization has dawned on the importance of the Central government’s decisions, he said.
