Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed the Chief Secretary Sunil Kujur to submit a work plan within a fortnight after holding discussion with all construction related departments and experts on the subject to impose hefty fines on construction agencies indulging in sub-standard construction.

Chief Minister said, “It is vital and necessary that valuable resources of the state should be utilized within certain limit, so that it can provide maximum benefit to the common man. There is a need to put an end to constructions that bypass quality.”

“In recent years, funds worth crores of rupees have been spent on construction of the roads, buildings, dams, anicuts and other different construction works. As there is lack of clear cut policy to ensure quality in construction works, at several places unwanted incidents have occurred due to sub-standard construction. Due to such works, state government incurred heavy losses. It also creates anti-government sentiments among the masses,” Chief Minister said.

He said, “Services of ‘independent agencies’ can also be taken for testing the quality of construction. Services of state government’s engineering colleges, renowned private sector colleges, polytechnic colleges and experienced professors can also be taken for the purpose.”
