The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a Yellow alert for Northern Chhattisgarh, predicting “heavy” to “very heavy” rains in the region. It also warned of medium to heavy rainfall in Central region including Raipur.

Citing reasons for the return of the monsoon, Dr H.P. Chandra of IMD said a low pressure area had developed in the north-western part of Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circle is situated at a height of 7.6 km.

On Sunday, light to medium rains lashed Bastar, Raipur and Durg districts. This situation will prevail in these areas for a couple of days, the expert added.

Meanwhile, due to incessant rains since Saturday, water logging was reported at Raipur’s Jaistambh Chowk, Rajendra Nagar, Janata Colony (Gudhiyari), Ring Road, Agrasen Chowk, Gayatri Nagar and Telibandha areas.
