IMA seeks protection against physical assaults

The Chhattisgarh unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday urged the Governor, Chief Minister and Health Minister to ensure protection to doctors against physical assault while at work.

In a statement, the Chairman of IMA's Hospital Board, Dr Rakesh Gupta, said the IMA will hold a protest on June 18 over the issue with the slogan ‘Save the Saviours’.

“The apex medical body has asked all its state and local branches across the country to observe the protest by wearing black badges, masks, ribbons, shirts and running awareness campaigns against violence targeting healthcare professionals,” he said.

Dr Gupta termed as “extremely disturbing” a series of violent acts against doctors in the last two weeks in various parts of the country.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, Chief Minister and Health Minister, the IMA demanded, among other things, that hospitals should be declared protected zones.
