IMA protests passage of NMC bills in Lok Sabha

Private Doctors across the state, under the banner of Indian Medical Association on Wednesday withdrew non-essential services to protest passage of National Medical Commission (NMC) bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Later a delegation under the leadership of IAM office bearers Dr Anil Jain, Dr Asha Jain, Dr Rakesh Gupta, DR SHYAM Sharma and Dr Ketan Shah met the district collector at Collectorate premises and handed over a memorandum opposing the bill.

President Hospital Board, Dr Rakesh Gupta later informed that government doctors though were on service but they also lodged their protest by wearing black ribbon. The ‘in-service’ doctors too halted their services for one hour to lodge a token protest, he said.

Gupta, citing the NMC bill, said their opposition was against passing of NMC bill as the medical practitioners other than MBBS would also be entitled to treat the patients in mixed- pathies. This new arrangement will decrease the quality of medical professionals.

Apart from that according to the new provisions 50% of the medical seats of private medical colleges would be given to management quota which will ultimately make the medical education expensive, he said.

In a bid to increase the numbers of doctors the union government has passed the bill which even allows quacks to treat the patients with Allopathic Modern Medicines. This will certainly decrease the quality of treatment, he added.
