Forest department’s flying squad seized a tractor loaded with teakwood worth Rs5 lakh and arrested several people including the vehicle’s driver from Minnur in Chintavagu Ghat under Bhopalpatnam forest range, officials said on Saturday. Based on specific intelligence inputs, a flying squad team cordoned off the area and seized a vehicle going towards Andhra Pradesh from Minnur. During inspection, the driver of the tractor was unable to produce any documents about how they got the precious teakwood. It was learnt that teakwood smugglers were continuously involved in illegal transportation of teakwood from forested areas of Bhopalpatnam.
