The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur is organising a two-day ‘GSMC 2014: Global Summit on Management Cases’ from Friday Global Summit on Management Cases aims to build a platform for case writers, academician, and people from industry to present their cases in the area of business and management.

The Summit is an endeavour to highlight real challenges and incidents faced by corporates today, an institute press release stated here on Thursday. Through this Summit IIM Raipur tries to synergize the corporate and academia to create a better environment of problem-solving.

The Summit also provides opportunities to share ideas, to improve case writing skills besides facilitating contact among peers and disseminate experiences of using case method of teaching. Cases were invited from faculties, researchers, practitioners, consultants and others.

The case method plays an essential role in management education. This pedagogy has been adopted successfully by several business schools worldwide. The case method is an instructor-guided, discussion-based learning tool where, instructors use questions, debate and application of analytical tools and frameworks to engage students in a challenging, interactive learning environment.

The participants act as co-creators of the learning process in the case method. In this method of learning, students can visualize a real situation in a holistic setting and they are required to analyze situations, develop alternatives, choose plans of action and implementation, communicate and defend their findings in the classroom. Cases are more likely to engage students in the classroom than the conventional mode of teaching.

The country, however, is faced by an acute shortage of management cases written in Indian context. “There is no shortage of critical events, best management practices and business accomplishment by Indian Managers, but these need to be documented”, feels Prof. BS Sahay, Director- IIM Raipur.

The Summit is an endeavour to fill up this gap. This year IIM Raipur received overwhelming response from case authors from Indian and abroad. The cases are received from academician, research scholars and industry practitioners in all functional areas of management including; marketing, finance, human resource management, information and communication technology, operation management, strategy and general management and other related areas of management.

There are 150 selected case authors are presenting their cases during these two days event. The two days Summit includes fifteen technical sessions and one panel discussion.

The panel discussion will be on the topic-teaching learning process through cases. The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof. A Damodaran, Professor, IIM Bangalore and panelists include Prof. Asha Kaul, Professor, IIM Ahmadabad, Dr Arvind Boaz, Nodal officer Climate Change and PCCF and MD Forest Development Corporation, Chhattisgarh and  Ajeet Khurana, CEO, SINE.

The Summit will be inaugurated by Kewal Handa, Former Managing Director, Pfizer and Board Member IIM Raipur and the keynote address by Prof. Rishikesh T Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore and Prof. Indranil Bose, Professor, IIM Calcutta.

The valedictory address shall be delivered by Prof. Mithileshwar Jha, Professor, IIM Bangalore. The event is likely to be participated by over 300 delegates from different parts of the country.

This Summit would be a great opportunity for academician, research scholars and corporate executives & practitioners to interact and network with top case authors and senior professors. This is also an opportunity to know about the contemporary practices in management case writing and case handling in the class.
