Students of IIM Raipur visited Aakansha lions School for Mentally Handicapped children to spend a day with them. It was a great experience for them as they got the chance to meet these specially challenged students.
They organised games such as mathematical chairs, dance & drawing competition. They learnt about how the children in spite of so many challenges fight day in and day out.
After meeting with children the students of IIM Raipur expressed that the innocence, honesty and purity seem lesser in today’s world. However these children are the reflection of those positive traits. Often people hesitate to take this job as a full time profession since it offers low salary and less growth in the profession. But people like Mrs Pillai are an inspiration. She has devoted her life in taking care of these children.
She expressed grief for lack of financial incentives & man power for these jobs. The curriculum designed for the student is completely functional & not theoretical. This will help the children to earn their livelihood. Mrs Pillai told the students of IIM Raipur that it is very evident that, it is not possible for these children to become engineers or doctors, but they are trained in such a way that they will not have to rely on others to fulfil their basic needs.
