Chhattisgarh film industry’s top jewel Padma Shri Ramanuj Sharma, fondly known as Anuj, spoke to mediapersons on Wednesday after returning from the award ceremony in New Delhi.
The actor, known for his modesty and simplicity, said that ‘Anuj’ (literally meaning younger brother) will always remain a little brother to the Chhattisgarhiyas. “I am proud of my homeland, my roots, my origin and I will always be your Anuj,” he said during a press conference.
Sharing his experience of receiving the honour from the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, Sharma said that it was a proud moment which made him remember his homeland and its people. “I dedicate this award to the soil of Chhattisgarh,” he said. He said that his family, directors, critics and above all his fans have helped him to gain this recognition.
Sharma said that until the state gets more theatres, the Chhattisgarhi movies will not flourish. “There are only three theatres in southern Chhattisgarh and the condition of the rest of the state is not good either. We need to reach a wider audience,” he said.
On joining Bollywood, Sharma said that presently he does not have any offer in hand but will consider any possibility in the future. “If I choose any project I will go to Mumbai, do my work and come back here,” he said. Commenting on the criticism he received when his name was announced for the award, Sharma said that everyone including legendary player Sachin Tendulkar faces criticism and he respects people’s right to voice their opinion.
