Team India, once it gets used to condition of Australian pitches will have an edge over other teams in the upcoming World Cup 2015, Indian Cricket all-rounder Irfan Pathan said on Wednesday.
He was in Raipur to inaugurate ‘Suresh Agrawal Memorial Corporate Cricket Tournament’ being organised by Hira Group at Balbir Singh Juneja Outdoor Stadium in Raipur from Thursday.
According to Pathan, Team India which is already in Australia now will have good preparation for playing on Australian soil. After playing India-Australia series, the team will take part in Tri-nation series between India-New Zealand and England, which will also help the Indian team a lot.
Over the question of T20 format and changes brought in the game, the ace all-rounder said: ‘ T-20 has made Cricket global. I do not find anything wrong in the shorter version of the game. Several new nations have started playing cricket after beginning of T-20’. Replying to a question about his chance of finding berth in the team again, Irfan said he was working hard to find a place before the World Cup.
Reacting over the tragic death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, after being struck by a bouncer on his head, Irfan said, He (Phillip) was one of the best cricketers of our time. We will all miss him. I think it is not the appropriate time to debate over the bouncer balls. However, we should also ensure that such extreme should not happen in future. It is a great loss for cricketing world, Irfan remarked.
Irfan dodged questions about the controversy over Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography and former Indian Coach Craig Chappel by saying that he was never involved in any controversies.
