House passes resolution to raise Ministers’ numbers

Published on:

Chhattisgarh State Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution unanimously asking the Centre to increase the numbers in the Council of Ministers from existing 15 per cent to 20 per cent of State’s total strength of Legislators.

The resolution was tabled in the House by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

In resolution, citing larger geographical area and urgency for speedy development of the State, the CM asked the Centre to raise headcount in State’s Council of Ministers.

As per existing law, any State can’t induct more than 15 per cent of its total strength of MLAs into its Council of Ministers and in Chhattisgarh the number of the Council of Ministers can’t exceed 13 as State has total number of 90 legislators.

The Congress which returned to power last month with a brute majority in Chhattisgarh after a gap of 15 years is finding hard to satisfy its majority of MLAs who are nurturing the ambition of getting ministerial berth.
