Hospital rules out negligence in delivery

The Mother and Child Care Hospital, Raipur, denied media reports of any negligence in treating a woman who delivered triplets on Friday.

The hospital told the media that Lalita Jharia’s first child was delivered before reaching the hospital. As she had three fetuses, the weight of the first child was 1.4 kg. The new born was shifted to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

On reaching the hospital, she was assisted in delivering two children. The second child weighed 1.1 kg, deemed critically underweight, and was also shifted to NICU.

The third child, who died in the womb (intrauterine death), weighed around 1.3 kg. All the deliveries were normal.

The hospital said as both the newborns are underweight, they have been kept in NICU for special care.
