High security jail in Jagdalpur soon

Published on:

Construction work of new jail in the district headquarters which is equipped with modern security and CCTV systems is in full swing and is likely to be completed by January 26.

Prisoners is large numbers will be shifted from the Central Jail to the new jail to lessen the overload in the old jail, official sources stated. Special emphasis is being laid on security measures both inside and outside the jail. Presently, the Central Jail lodges prisoners two-and-a-half times more than its prescribed capacity.

An anti-climbing wire will be placed over the six-metre high boundary wall. As soon as anybody touches the fence, alarm in the jail will start ringing and TV screen installed in the control room will be activated. The wires will be connected to the electric supply. The jail campus will be surrounded by watchtowers to keep an eye on every activity within one kilometre radius. The jail staff members have been given walkie-talkie sets to co-ordinate with each other. Double-decker barracks are under-construction.

“The expansion works are going on in full swing and all the security measures are put in place,” said Jail Superintendent Rajendra Kumar Gaikwad. The jail is constructed in such a manner that digging a tunnel will not be a possible route for escaping. Six hidden cameras with zoom lens will be installed inside the jail.
