Moderate to heavy rainfall at some isolated places in southern parts of the state is predicted by the meteorological department for Thursday.
Raipur's weather too turned pleasant on Wednesday evening as the mercury dropped a few notches after soaring high the last few days.
This provided much needed respite from sultry weather amid the ongoing Nautapa.
Dr H.P. Chandra, a weather scientist at the Raipur centre of the India Meteorological Department, said the reason behind the change in the weather is due to a trough in the Bastar region.
“Because of it, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds and lightening are very likely in some isolated places in the southern parts of the state,” he said.
There was a minor drop in the temperature in cities in the state's northern and southern parts.
The scientist said the monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on Thursday
“Westerly winds have strengthened in the lower levels over the south Arabian Sea and deepened. As per satellite imagery, there is an increase in cloudiness over the Kerala coast and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea. These are likely to favour the further enhancement in rainfall activity over Kerala in the next 24 hours," he said.
