The Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the state government on two petitions filed by IPS officer Gurjinder Pal Singh, who was suspended for corruption and booked for sedition.
A single bench of Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas also directed the state to submit case diaries in both the matters, Singh’s counsel Kishore Bhaduri said.
The court posted the matter for further hearing on July 20.
In his plea, the 1994-batch officer has alleged prejudice behind the corruption case and sought quashing of the FIR for sedition, Bhaduri said.
Singh, who was Director of the Police Academy, was suspended on July 5 after a case was lodged against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act for holding assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Searches at his premises unearthed movable and immovable assets worth around Rs 10 crore, officials said.
The police on July 8 filed a sedition case against Singh on charges of promoting enmity and hatching a conspiracy against the government and public representatives.
The officer has sought a stay on the probe against him.
He wants the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or other independent agencies for a fair probe, Bhaduri said.
