Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur on Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation, which charged that illegal felling of trees were being promoted by the Bhupesh Baghel government by its decision to revise forest land title.

An order in this regard was given by division bench of Chief Justice P.R. Ramchandran Menon and Justice P.P. Sahu while hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) of social activist Nitin Singhvi.

“After Chhattisgarh government filing an affidavit saying that a systematic revision work would be done on the forest land title and that it will not promote illegal feeling of trees, the court has dismissed the plea,” informed Advocate General, Chhattisgarh, Satish Chandra Verma.

Earlier, the court had restricted the distribution of land titles by the state government after the petitioner charged illegal felling of trees are carried out in certain regions of the state with intention of getting land-title.

Petitioner Singhvi had demanded immediate restriction on distribution of forest land titles, citing what he claimed to be proofs, including photographs that rural inhabitants are felling trees in order to get the land title.
