A Maoist couple surrendered before the police here on Monday.
The couple identified as Berta Bheema alias Bheemal Kawasi alias Bhusku and his wife Sito alias Jamli have given up arms , a press release issued by State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) informed.
Bheema was Deputy Commander of Maoist military platoon number 2 while his wife Sito was Section Deputy Commander, it informed.
Bheema, according to the police, was wanted in connection with an ambush which had happened at Dhaudai of restive Narayanpur district in 2010 wherein 26 police personnel were killed.
likewise, he was also involved in the killing of a policeman at Gumeddih village of Kanker district in 2008.
In the same way, the insurgent also was part of the Naxal teams that had abducted two policemen at Bijapur in 2015 and later on their body was found dumped on the main road.
Bheema had joined Naxal ranks in 2006 and had worked in various capacities of the banned Maoist organization, police said.
Police further informed that Sito was inducted into the banned Maoist organization as Naxal Janmilita member at Bhairamgarh of Bijapur district.She used to provide medical assistance to the injured ultras.
Both got married in 2015. They will be provided with benefits prescribed under the surrender policy adopted by the State government, police informed.
