The State Government is mulling over plans to purchase gunny bags worth Rs 850 crore for storing paddy for the Kharif season, official sources said on Thursday.
The purchase would be made through State Co-operative Marketing Federation ltd (MARKFED). The Government has commenced preparation for the procurement of paddy in the new Kharif season. Sources said that the Government will procure about 70 lakh tonnes of paddy this Kharif season through primary cooperative societies . The purchase of gunny bags for it are already underway.
MARKFED has decided to purchase gunny bags worth Rs 3.78 crore. It is obtaining credit limit from the bank. A total of Rs 8 crore worth of gunny bags would be purchased, sources said.
