GST compensation extension demand unreasonable: BJP

Published on:

Chhattisgarh BJP President Vishnudeo Sai had said the state government has already taken huge loans, which is beyond the revenue generation capacity, and that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been regularly seeking the Centre's assistance.

Sai was reacting to Baghel’s demand to extend the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation by 10 years.

Sai said Baghel has written to the Chief Ministers of other states to pressurize the Central government to extend the period of GST compensation by 10 years.

But the fact remains that in the GST Council, the decision was already taken after consent from all the states.

By raising such an issue at this crucial time when the GST deadline of five years is ending by June, the Chief Minister was trying to spread anarchy across the country by instigating other states, he said

The Chhattisgarh government has been seeking regular assistance from the Central government apart from taking huge loans in the last three years. The situation has come where the state's economy will derail due to the burden of debt.
