Govt's rain water harvesting campaign now in Surguja

The Chhattisagrh Government has launched a campaign to promote Rain Water Harvesting practices in Surguja district.

A mobile van was flagged off by Surguja MP Kamalbhan Singh along with senior Government officials which would travel across the district for motivating people to adopt Rain Water Harvesting practices on Thursday.

Notably, Chief Minister Raman Singh in the month of July this year had also asked the officials of Raipur Development Authority (RDA) to ensure rain water harvesting is carried out in the ambitious Kamal Vihar project coming up near Raipur.

The Chief Minister while visiting the project had also stated that ground water should be recharged using monsoon water which can be used for watering parks later.

He told officials that instead of rain water flowing through natural nullahs, the water could be used to recharge ground water and also same could be treated in the Sewarage Treatment plants and the water could be utilised for hugenumber of plantations which should be carried out in the colony.

The State Government had already decided to adopt rainwater harvesting system and implemented rules for installing this system in houses not only in urban areas but in other areas also, so that the ground water level, which is rapidly declining every year,  could be increased to some extent.

The Government had decided that besides official buildings, privately owned houses would also be constructed with rainwater harvesting system. Such order has been issued to urban areas also.

According to the order, while passing the drawing for construction of new building, the authority should ensure that rainwater-harvesting system is being installed in the new building. Additional fee has also been prescribed for it.

As a result, if the landowner does not install the system in the building, urban bodies would install it in the building with the money deposited by the owner.

After 3 years of the issuance of the order, now it has become compulsory to construct rainwater-harvesting system in all Government buildings.

Under the rainwater harvesting system, it is mandatory to construct such a system at the time of construction of building, so that rainwater should not go waste during monsoons.

Among Central units, the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) would be installing a rain water harvesting system at the administrative building  at Dallirajhara mines as a move to conserve maximum amount of rain water.

Apart from water conservation measures , the BSP had been taking massive energy conservation measures at the BSP plant.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also proposed for providing elaborate drainage and Rain Water Harvesting System on both sides of the runway of Swami Vivekananda Airport here beyond 150 metres from the centre line of runway, officials stated. The move is to preserve precious rain water resources, they stated.
