The State Government’s move to sell vegetables at fair price shops under the Public Distribution System (PDS) has fallen flat. According to sources, vegetables were not available in the fair price shops opened recently for providing relief to people from the sky-rocketing prices of vegetables.
In the shop run by Preena Community Development Committee at Rajatalab, only one or two vegetables like ladies’ finger and bitter gourd were seen in the morning.Tomato, the price of which was Rs30 per kg, was indeed available in the shop, but the stock was almost finished. A teacher with Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Sheetal Sahu said that she had gone to purchase vegetables from the fair price shop, but the shopkeeper told her that vegetables would arrive in the afternoon. Only Okra and bitter gourd were available in the shop. In order to supply potato, onion and other vegetables at cheap rates, the State Government had given the responsibility of selling vegetables at proper price at fair price shops under the PDS to self-help groups of Tikrapara, Khamhardeeh, Rajatalab, Ashok Nagar and Ramnagar.
