Govt to withdraw SC cases of businessmen on GST: Goyal

It is our effort that there should be ease in taxation so that people should not approach the judiciary to resolve the issues. It is also to be ensured that tax evasion is not done by businessmen and they are determined to produce the best quality products”, said Union Minister for Finance and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in a function held at Raipur.

He is on a tour of different States to access and hear the grievances of business community regarding Goods and Service Tax (GST).

While addressing the seminar organised by Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) under aegis Chhattisgarh State Infrastructure Development Corporation (CSIDC), Piyush said, digitalisation of taxation has been done by the Government to stop the interference of Government in their business.

Speaking about cases in Supreme Court challenging the various provisions of GST, the Finance Minister said that the most of the cases are of small and medium scale businessmen and the Government has decided to withdraw almost half of them. In this regard, the Government is going to write a letter to the apex court.

“It was not easy to enforce GST in the country with varied interests. But it was the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to bring in a honest system in the country. Even in the countries like USA and China, they are not taking the courage of implementing GST.

Chief Minister Raman Singh in his presidential speech said that Modi-led government has removed the discrepancies in the business which was continued since seven decades. Earlier, the traders and businessmen were trouble with so many taxes and now they are much relaxed.
