Govt taking credit for '108 Sanjeevani' service, alleges Congress city president

Chhattisgarh State Congress Committee City President Vikas Upadhayaya on Thursday warned that the city-level party workers would change the name of the ‘108 Sanjeevani’ service using spray paint which he claimed is in fact a Centrally sponsored scheme if the ruling government failed to display it as a 'national scheme' .

In a statement here, Upadhyaya alleged that a complaint was made to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the presence of Chief Minister Raman Singh on Thursday that the ruling Government in the State has taken credit of ‘Sanjeevani 108’ service which he said is in fact a centrally sponsored scheme.

Upadhyaya said that the amount for the scheme is forwarded by the Central Government in the name of ‘National Service’ but the State Government had not written the name of the service.

He alleged that the ruling Government in the State is taking ‘false credit’ for the ‘108 Sanjeevani’ service in which 80 per cent of the funds are provided by the Centre.

On March 16 this year, Joint Secretary in the Union Government Manoj Jhalani had written a letter to the State Government while stating that the ‘108 Sanjeevani’ service be run under the name of the Union Government or the grants would not be given for the purpose, Upadhayaya said. Despite this, the State Government had not changed the name of the service, he added.
