The Chhattisgarh Government is targetting 7.5 per cent annual rate of industrial growth during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, officials stated.

The State Government's Five-Year Industrial Policy (year 2009-2014) has achieved tremendous success in systematic industrial development of Chhattisgarh.

The State produces nearly 15 million tonnes of steel, which is 30 per cent of country's total production capacity. Annual production of cement in Chhattisgarh has reached 18 million tonnes, which is 15 per cent of country’s total production capacity.

likewise, annual Aluminium production capacity of Chhattisgarh has also reached 3.50 lakh tonnes, which constitutes 30 per cent of country's total production capacity.

Including State Government's power plants besides those of Central undertakings and private power projects, total power generation capacity of Chhattisgarh has reached 24,058 MW. The State is maintaining the status of ‘zero-power cut State’ since year 2008.

As a result of successful implementation of Chhattisgarh Government's second industrial policy under the leadership of Chief Minister Raman Singh, the rate of industrial development in State has reached 6.07 per cent.

It is noteworthy that Chhattisgarh's second industrial policy was announced on the occasion of ‘Rajyotsav-2009’. In its first year 2009-10, the State had recorded export worth Rs 1,675.16 crore, which has increased to Rs 7,701.66 crore in the previous financial year 2013-14.

The State Government had recovered Rs 4,470.69 crores from various industries in Chhattisgarh as Central levies and Service Tax during 2009-10. But after successful implementation of various provisions of the industrial policy, the revenue collection from same sources increased to Rs 7,889.76 crore.

Under the industrial policy, Chhattisgarh Government has given subsidy of Rs 252 crore to industries in last five years, for promoting investments. Moreover, concession in stamp duty worth Rs 30.71 crores was also given. Besides, electricity duty exemption certificates have been issued to 159 industries.

After formation of Chhattisgarh, the policy of core-sector development was adopted in view of the availability of coal, iron-ore, bauxite, dolomite, limestone and other minerals in Chhattisgarh. Out of the 121 MoUs signed under this policy, 60 projects have already started and implementation of remaining 61 MoUs is in progress. Capital investment of nearly Rs 44 crore have been done on these projects.

The electricity rates in Chhattisgarh are considerably low as compared to other developed States of the country. Farmers, general domestic consumers and industries are availing regular electricity supply. Meanwhile, construction of thermal power projects of private sector is also underway in the State.

Following success in development of core-sector, Chief Minister Raman Singh has adopted the policy of promoting non-core sector, under which capital investments in Agro and forest produce based industries, food processing industries, automotive, new and Renewable Energy, Information Technology, Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, Tourism, Skill Development would be encouraged.

The Global Investors' Meet was held in Chhattisgarh for the first time in year 2012 to attract investors for non-core sector industries.

In this event, the State Government had released four major industrial policies for non-core sector that includes Agriculture and Food Processing Industrial Policy 2012, Automotive Industrial Policy 2012, Policyf or Investment in Information Technology/IT based services 2012 and Solar Energy Policy 2012-2017.
