If the Chhattisgarh government runs the Nagarnar Steel Plant in case of disinvestment0, the unemployed, particularly in Bastar, will benefit, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Mohan Markam said on Tuesday.
In a statement to the media, he said in 2001 the Congress government began acquiring land. Under the rehabilitation package, one person from among land losing families was to be given a job in the NMDC project.
In 2001, 293 persons were nominated for jobs. Ten were not given jobs due to several reasons.
He said that in 2010, the BJP government acquired land of 1,052 farmers. The eligible 624 are given sustenance allowance, not jobs. Those having studied less than Class 8 got `7,080, those who has passed school `11,000, and graduates and above `12,000.
Markam called it injustice to the landless farmers.
He said Bastar falls in the Scheduled Area and 5th Schedule is effective, but despite that the central government is trying to privatize it. It is the first example in the country where a project under construction is being disinvested.
