Govt land to be free of encroachments: Raman

The Chhattisgarh Government will be taking effective steps for making Government land in villages and urban pockets free from encroachments, stated Chief Minister Raman Singh while interacting with editors of local dailies in Raipur on Tuesday.

“lok Suraj Abhiyan is commencing from April 27. During this campaign, I along with ministers, Chief Secretary, Secretary, Commissioner, Collector and officials at Panchayat level would personally reach out to the people to review government schemes as well as working of the government's machinery,” he said.

Expressing concern over decline in groundwater levels, the Chief Minister said that to spread awareness among the people regarding conservation of groundwater, workshops will be held at the block-levels during the campaign. On the occasion, an appeal will be made to the farmers for not taking up cultivation of paddy during summer season, which require massive water requirements.

The Government has also decided to fill 3,965 ponds through canals of irrigation reservoirs, he said, adding that as of now, around 3,100 ponds were filled and soon remaining ponds will also be filled.

lack of awareness among the people about rainwater harvesting system is one of the reasons behind decline in groundwater level, Singh said.

“The issue was discussed with the Raipur City Mayor. To make a provision for installation of rain water harvesting system in new as well as old house (as per the provision) mandatory, it is under consideration,” he added.

As compared to previous years, pollution levels in Raipur has gone down, claimed Singh.
