'Govt insensitive towards women'

BJP Government in Chhattisgarh seems to be least bothered about safety of women and girls across the State, alleged  Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday.

He demanded a high-level probe into alleged sexual exploitation of tribal women by security personnel in insurgency-hit Bijapur district last month.

Pointing towards several incidents including alleged rape of tribal women and minor girls by security personnel in Bijapur, exploitation of school girls in Government hostels, deaths of women in botched sterilisation surgery, killing of a tribal teenager Meena Khalkho in a staged shootout and harassment of a senior lady officer Manjeet Kaur Bal by minister Ajay Chandrakar, Baghel said these incidents clearly expose Chhattisgarh Government’s intention towards women safety.

Interacting with media persons here, Baghel said as per the investigation carried out by an eleven-member team, which recently travelled to Bijapur, security personnel are found responsible for sexually exploiting women. He asked State Government to constitute a high-level probe into the matter to ensure guilty not go scot free.

Notably, three women including a minor girl, were allegedly raped by security personnel on October 19-20 in villages falling under Basaguda block in Bijapur district. After intervention of some social activists, police registered a case into the matter.

Baghel who was accompanied by Congress leader and former Minister Mohammed Akbar accused State Government of being involved in a scam to the tune of over `15 crore took place in paddy procurement centre of Devri and Suma in Bhatapara in July this year.
