Amid escalating protests organised by opposition parties, the Chhattisgarh Government on Monday constituted a single-member judicial commission to probe into killing of a Dalit youth Satish in Mulmula police station in Janjgir-Champa district.
Retired judge Justice Inder Singh Uboweja of Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur, will head the commission and will submit his report to State Government in a three-month period.
Opposition parties Congress and a recently formed political outfit led by former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi staged demonstrations across the State blaming Raman Singh Government for its alleged anti-Dalit mentality. Congress has sought resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh.
Top police officials in Raipur confirmed that a case of murder has also been registered against four police personnel for allegedly beating to death a Dalit youth.
“Since the deceased youth belonged to Scheduled Caste category, therefore a FIR has also been registered under sections of Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) [PoA] Act, 1989,’’ the officials informed.
The State Government has announced to provide assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family. The Government has also decided of offering a Government job to Usha Norge, wife of the murdered Dalit youth. The Government further said it wanted to ensure free-of-cost education to deceased’s children.
