The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) on Thursday accused the State Government on miserably failing to make available seeds to the farmers.

CGPCC president, Bhupesh Baghel and ClP leader, TS Singhdeo claimed that there was acute shortage of seeds in the State. In their joint statement, the senior Congress leaders said that monsoon has arrived in the State but the seed stock was not made in the cooperative societies up to its full capacity. The double-lock centers are also lying vacant.

They further claimed that farmers are running pillar to post in search of seeds. Baghel, who was  touring the Bastar region to boost their campaign against the State Government’s move of hiking power tariff besides ration card verification and cancellation drive, claimed of finding situation more tense in the region due to alleged shortage of seeds.

“Bastar receives monsoon first in the State and thus, the farmers here start sowing paddy before rest of the State. It is the appropriate time for sowing but the farmers do not have seeds, courtesy to the State Government’s wrong policies and failure to make available the seeds” said they adding that the State was also facing crises of Soybean seeds.

“It’s State Government responsibility to make available seeds, fertiliser and pesticide to the farmers on low price but they have failed in every corner” alleged the Congress leaders.

“While the farmers are in dire need of money for irrigation, the State Government is not willing to clear their dues pending as bonus on the last crops grown in the State,” the leaders alleged.
