'Govt failed to probe Jeeram carnage in time'

The one-member Judicial Commission constituted by the State Government to probe into the Jeeram Valley carnage by Maoists has failed to complete its investigation even after one year, said State Congress president Bhupesh Baghel on Monday.

“The State Government had claimed that the Commission would complete the probe within three months of the incident. As only three days are remaining for completion of one year of the incident, the State Government has now submitted an affidavit before the Commission,” he said in a Press conference here.

Terming the martyrdom of the Congress leaders an irreparable loss, Baghel said that the Congress held condolence meetings in the honour of Jeeram Valley martyrs at block and district-level on the first anniversary and paid tearful tributes to the departed party leaders.

To a question on the defeat of the Congress in the State, he said that the atmosphere in the entire State was against the Congress. On BK Hariprasad’s declaration to construct ‘Jeeram Ghati Smarak,’ he said he was not aware of the same.

He said that the NIA report had made it clear that the incident was not a political conspiracy. This has proved that the allegations the BJP leaders had made on the Congress were false. For that, the BJP should seek apology from the people.
