Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Bhupesh Baghel launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP Government over the paddy procurement issue on the Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress (INC) on Saturday, while saying that the former was deceiving people of Chhattisgarh.
In a statement issued here, Baghel said that earlier the BJP Government had deceived the people of State in the name of exchanging Salt with ‘Chironji’.
Similarly, the Government had made electoral promise for giving `2,400 to the farmers and was again deceiving the people of Chhattisgarh, he said.
Reiterating the Congress stand over building of pressure on the State Government and bearing the responsibility of a responsible Opposition, the CGPCC chief said that the ruling BJP Government had promised support price of `2,100 per quintal on paddy purchase and bonus of `300 per quintal to the farmers which they would have to fulfill in the State.
“Expecting the Union Government to fulfill the promise is not right. Just by writing a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh cannot escape from his responsibility,” Baghel said, adding, ‘the farmers of Chhattisgarh had voted the BJP believing on the its promises and fulfilling them is the responsibility of the ruling BJP Government.
