Govt committed for 32 pc tribal reservation: Markam

Published on:

The Congress on Sunday reiterated its commitment to hike reservation for Scheduled Tribes from the present 20 percent to 32 percent in Chhattisgarh.

PCC chief Mohan Markam said the government had strongly represented the case in the Supreme Court and is also ready to bring an ordinance to hike the tribal reservation in line with their population in the state.

Markam held the erstwhile Raman Singh government responsible for weakening the case in the Chhattisgarh High Court because of which the court refused to hike the tribal reservation citing the apex court’s cap of 50 percent.

The Raman Singh government didn’t mention the Kanwar Committee report in the affidavit submitted to High Court, the Congress leader said.
