Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Chief Minister Raman Singh during the discussion on Appropriation bill in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Tuesday charged that the ruling party of backtracking from its poll promise of enforcing total Prohibition.
Commenting on the Appropriation bill he said the government once again is depending on liquor contractors in the State.
The former Chief Minister also claimed that his Government did tenfold better work for the farmers than the Congress Government. “We had provided farm loan on zero percent interest and initiated scheme of supplying 7500 units of power to farmers, he said.
Singh further alleged that due to the Appropriation bill the fiscal deficit would get doubled. It would rise to 4 per cent from the present 2 per cent, he said.
Speaking about farm loan waiver by the Congress government as its poll promise, Singh said the Government might have taken lesson from Madhya Pradesh government where the government had also waived farmer loans taken from nationalized banks.
The Government here is ‘fooling’ the farmers and they have now come to know that the poll promises were made by Congress only to win the elections, he said.
Singh said the Congress had won the elections on basis of its poll manifesto but they now have to stress on fiscal management.
Panchayat Minister T.S. Singhdeo interrupted Singh and said it was good that the former Chief Minister had studied Congress party’s poll manifesto.
Congress member Satyanarayan Sharma speaking thereafter said the former Chief Minister was giving so many advises to the new government but if he had done his work in a better way they might not have been sitting in the Opposition. The new government was committed to its poll promises and the former Chief Minister should not show apprehension on it, he said.
