The State Government has approved Rs62.97 crore community water supply project in 54 villages of Navagarh block of Bemetara district to combat water salinity problems. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Ramsevak Paikra has directed officials to complete the project at the earliest. Considering the problem of salinity in 98 villages of Bemetara district, Chief Minister Raman Singh in November last year had endorsed two projects worth Rs101.47 crore for supplying safe water in these villages.

This apart, it may be recalled that a total of 26 district-level government laboratories have been established in Chhattisgarh for testing the purity of drinking water. During the last three years, 56,388 samples of ground water sources have been examined in these laboratories, officials said. In the areas, where iron-ore, fluoride or impurities were found in the samples, safe drinking water is being supplied by establishing necessary purification plants. ying

In the second phase of the Mission, 90 per cent rural families will get water supply through 'Nal Jal Yojana' by 2022.
