Governor Shekhar Dutt on Sunday administered polio drops to children at the polio booth set up at Chhattisgarh Club. The polio drive was organised under the national pulse police vaccination campaign.
Under the drive, polio drops are being administered to children under the age group of 0 to 5 years in 2 phases, on January 19 and February 23. Besides, the polio vaccination teams will visit door-to-door and administer polio drops to children on 2 consecutive days i.e. onJanuary 20 and 21 and 24 and 25.
The pulse polio campaign launched in the state during the previous years had excellent results. After 2002, not a single new polio case has been reported in the state. Similarly, after 2008 no new case of polio was reported in the country.
After administering polio drops, while discussion with the officers of health department, the Governor said that it was good thing that no new case of polio has been reported in the state and the country, but “we always need to be alert and polio drops should be administered to the children on a regular basis.”
Citing examples, he said that plague had spread in Surat city after so many years. like polio, every possible step should be taken to eradicate leprosy in Chhattisgarh state, he added. He also urged the parents to administer polio drops to their children compulsorily, as, if any one child is deprived of it or affected by polio, the whole polio cycle could be broken.
Chief medical and health officer Dr KR Sonwani, district health officer Dr Sanjeev Magaroolkar, district vaccination officer Dr Ram Singh, health officer of the governor Dr Rupal Purohit were also present on the occasion.
CMHO Dr Sonwani said that for this campaign, 1240 polio booths had been installed in the district, in which three lakh children were being given polio drops.
