The Government Engineering College (GEC) here celebrated its Golden Jubilee with enthusiasm on Sunday. The college which had a humble beginning with three faculties - Civil, Mechanical and Electrical – way back in 1964 is one of the pioneering higher education institutions the city. The college produced thousands of engineers of high caliber who are still contributing to the welfare of the nation from within and outside the country. Some of its former students are doing commendable jobs abroad.
Another ex-student Ashish Gore, a 1990 batch gold medalist of Department of Mechanical who is currently working as Vice President of Regional Business Unit Brake Components Asia-Pacific with Bosch company at Shanghai in China said “we used to come to college sitting on the top of the bus” for want to transport facilities. He had come all the way from China to attend the function. He also advised his juniors to make no compromise when it came to hard work failing which they would not achieve their target in life. Many former teachers and students who attended the function cherished their found memories of past and exchanged pleasantries.
