Got no directives to probe corruption charges: ADGP

The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) has not received any communication in written or verbal for probing the charges of corruption in Bilaspur district sterilisation camp case, informed Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Mukesh Gupta on Friday.

He was addressing a news conference after taking charge as ADG EOW and Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).Gupta said that very soon a toll free number would be launched on which anyone could register a complaint about financial irregularities. When asked that there were corruption charges being levelled on the owners of some pharmaceutical companies who had supplied medicines for the sterilisation camps held in Bilaspur district, the ADG said that he had not received any communication for conducting probe into the case. “If the case is handed over to me, I would certainly conduct an investigation,” he remarked.

To a query about long pending cases with the EOW, the Gupta said “there is no point in a case prolonging for 10 to 12 years. It happens because certain information is not available and we would try to develop a system so that after a certain period we need not linger on the case.”He denied of being under any political pressure and added never in his career he came under such pressure. “This is a challenge in this Department to get information from different departments,” Gupta said.

To a question about taking action against police officers in cases related to disproportionate assets the ADG said, if we receive such complaints then certainly we would verify  and take action if found true.Over the question of lack of manpower with EOW, he accepted that the Department was facing such a problem and said efforts were on for solving it. Under these circumstances we would fix our priorities and try to give maximum emphasis to our work at hand, the ADG said.
