Furious over the rising price of fuel, goods transporters of Chhattisgarh have announced an indefinite strike and 'chakka jam' from August 1.
The transporters have told the state and Union governments they will halt freight movement across the state if immediate steps are not taken to bring diesel price under GST and to end collection of illegal levy by the police.
All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) state President Sukhdeo Singh Siddhu said their earlier demands have fallen on deaf ear.
“Diesel price has shot up beyond Rs 100 and needs to be brought under GST,” he said.
Also, in 2020, the Central government told the state governments to fix the logistic fares per tonne per kilometer a la MSP for crops but nothing has been done, he said.
“We are unable to hike the freight cost as the freight charges of Indian Railways is much less. So something has to be done by the government in order to benefit the 20 crore transporters across the country,” he added.
The transporters also asked former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and BJP leader Raman Singh to talk to the Union government on bringing diesel prices under GST, Siddhu said.
