Raipur divisional Commissioner G. R. Churendra has directed all district collectors, Zila Panchayat chief executive officers and Public Health Engineering Department division and district officials to give top priority to ensure regular pure drinking water supply during summer months.

Directing the officials in a letter, he said in summer months, the urban and rural areas will face acute shortage of drinking water. Keeping this in mind, fishing and use of water for irrigation from reservoir, ponds and smaller ponds should be banned in both urban and rural areas, he directed.

The water being supplied through the canals to fill the water bodies should not be wasted at any cost, he further instructed.

The commissioner further stated that special care should be taken to ensure that both government and private tube wells in villages facing drinking water problem are not used for irrigation. But at the same time attention should also be given to ensure Rabi crops are not damaged due to lack of water.

Small tanks should be constructed in rural areas so that cattle can also be provided drinking water. The unused wells in villages should be cleaned through public participation. The water can be used for daily use and for the cattle. The water management committee in villages should monitor the water crises situation, he said.
