Give priority to small farmers in token distribution: CM

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday told officials to issue tokens for paddy procurement to small and marginal farmers on priority.

“The Collectors should make sure that on priority basis cooperative societies must issue token for small and marginal farmers,” Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was quoted in a press release.

The Chief Minister told officials to make sure that of the total tokens issued, 70 percent must be for small and marginal farmers. Also, every district should try to purchase the whole paddy a farmer has registered at one time.

Baghel told officials not to hassle the farmers during paddy purchase.

He has also asked officials to immediately rectify differences in the acreage and ‘gidawari’ (cultivated area) if found in the record of farmers registered for selling paddy.

Paddy procurement for Kharif season 2020-21 had started in Chhattisgarh on December 1 and will conclude on January 31, 2021.

As per government record, by December 7 in all 8.46 lakh tonnes of paddy had been purchased from 2.40 lakh farmers in Chhattisgarh.
