Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said special attention should be given to the educational, social and economic development as well as business and employment needs of the Other Backward Classes or OBCs.
He was addressing the maiden meeting of the Chhattisgarh Other Backward Classes Advisory Council here.
He said all sections included in OBCs should take maximum advantage of the schemes run by the government.
The Advisory Council, he said, has been formed to give advice to the government for the protection, welfare and all-round development of the interests of OBCs.
He said that in the areas where there is good production of vegetables, attention should be paid to the activities related to the trade of vegetables such as installation of dryers and packing.
He added that efforts have been made to give representation to maximum sub-castes and regions of OBCs in the Council.
He appreciated the efforts being made by different communities for holding mass marriages, promoting education and other societal activities.
The members underlined the need for opening more hostels for education. In 2023-24, the government approved 15 new post matric hostels for the OBC. The hostels should also be used for imparting coaching for competitive examinations.
