The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) President Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday alleged that poor people are getting harassed in the Government drive to cancel fake ration cards in the State.
Baghel, in a statement here, informed that on June 7 which is being celebrated as ‘Chawal Utsav’ (Rice festival) by the State Government, the Congress party workers will reach various PDS shops and demand rice for ration card holders across the State.
He alleged that corruption in excess of Rs1,000 crore was happening every year in the State’s PDS system. The CGPCC President alleged that in the name of ration card verification, common people are being subjected to unnecessary harassment.
The Congress party will keep eye on the ration card cancellation process. We have also decided that a four-member committee shall be constituted at Block, Panchayat and Municipal Corporation levels which will keep an eye on the ration card verification process, he said.
A Control Room will be established in Raipur for better co-ordination by the party. During the ‘Chawal Utsav’ the Congress members will go to PDS shops and ensure that ration card holders do get their rightful share of rice, the CGPCC President said.
