The chief electoral officer of Chhattisgarh has issued a new order relating to the formation of the committee that will check and monitor media and related matters during the electioneering.
According to the new order, the state’s chief electoral officer himself will be the chairman of the Media certification and Monitoring Committee. It will have five other members including the observer deputed by central election commission, directors of both Doordarsan and All India radio, a state approved journalist, and the joint State chief electoral officer.
The committee will check ‘paid news’ during elections by previewing, scrutinising and verifying all advertisements by individual contesting candidates or political parties, before it is inserted in the electronic media.
