Four Naxals including a couple surrendered before the police in the Maoist stronghold Kondagaon district of Bastar on Friday.
Shabby treatment of lower rank cadres by senior Maoist leaders of Andhra Pradesh origin was the reason behind these guerrillas finally deciding to shun the path of violence. Exploitation of tribal women and extortion from villagers by Naxals was another major factor which forced them to rest their arms,” Additional Superintendent of Police Kondagaon Surjit Atri informed.
The surrendered Naxal cadres have been identified as Chema of Jan Militia group of Maoist Beer Singh (30), her wife Bhagwati Korram (25), Chitu Sori (25) and Hadi alias Ramchand Korram, all natives of Mardapal police station limits and were active in the north Bastar region.Police informed that Chitu surrendered along with a muzzle loading gun.
The surrendered rebels stated that cadres from Andhra Pradesh have thwarted development of the region. The rebels will be rehabilitated as per the policy of the State government, police informed.
Atri further said that they were allegedly exploited by senior cadres from Andhra Pradesh. The Maoists surrendered before police were allegedly forced to join the banned organisation Communist Party of India (Maoists) under the pressure and after closely watching the entire Naxal organization they decided to withdraw themselves.
