Former Chairman of Raipur Development Authority (RDA) and Senior Congress leader Gangaram Sharma died here after suffering a heart attack late on Sunday night. He was 60.
The funeral of the late Congress leader was taken out from his residence near Budhapara and cremation was held at Marwari Cremation Ghat during the noon hours in the city on Monday.
It is also a sheer coincidence that it was also the 13th day ritual of veteren Congress leader Vidyacharan Shukla who was his neighbour. Shukla had succumbed to bullet injuries in the Maoist attack on the Congress convoy on May 25 at Jeeram Ghati of Bastar. Sharma was to attend the 13th day ritual of the former Union Minister the next day but breathed his last on Sunday night.
Sharma as RDA Chairman had launched a number of schemes for Raipur city’s development during his tenure. A large number of Congress leaders, workers and his supporters attended the cremation at Marwari ghat.
