A Forest Ranger was hacked to death by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday, police said.
The incident happened around 3 pm when Rathram Patel reached Kondronji village in the Jangla police station limits, about 45 km from Bijapur town, Inspector General (Bastar) P. Sundarraj said over telephone.
The Maoists abducted him and took him to a school in the village and hacked him to death, the officer said.
The deceased was posted at the Indravati Tiger Reserve as a Ranger of the Bhairamgarh Forest Range. He was from Balodabazar district and lived in Bhairamgarh town.
“The Ranger had gone to the village to distribute remuneration for a road built by villagers. Two Forest Guards had accompanied him but they managed to escape," Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.
