In past 13 years about 77400 hectare of forest cover has shrunken, accepted Forest Minister Vikram Usendi in a written reply to the question raised by Congress Party legislator Kuldip Juneja on the last day of Monsoon session.
The minster on the third day of the session which also the last assembly session of ruling Government informed that the time of formation of State in year 2000 the State had about 56,44,800 hectares of land was coveredwith forest.
However by March 13, 2013 the forest cover has been reduced to 55,67,400 hectares. It makes a total decrease of 774400 hectares.
